Mike Schmidt’s Winner’s Circle Tournament Coming in May

This year will be the 14th annual Mike Schmidt & HMY Winner’s Circle Invitational. A renowned fishing tournament has brought in in big fish and big money for cystic fibrosis.  The hall of fame baseball star, Mike Schmidt and HMY Yachts. Some of the other underwriters for Winner’s Circle Charities include: the Cleveland Clinic of Florida and the Marine Industry Education Foundation, a maritime academy, which trains of students for, boating-careers.

Combining adoration for angling and passion to fight cystic fibrosis, these groups have made huge strides for the foundation. The Winner’s Circle Charity has proved tremendously successful over the years and they are looking to hit the $2 million to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT:

This year the Winner’s Circle Tournament will be held at Old Bahama Bay at West End, Bahamas. Many of the boats leave from Jupiter, Florida and make their way to our neighboring island. Check in will be on May 1st in Old Bahama Bay by 5:00pm and the captain’s meeting will kickoff at 6:00pm. The following 3 days will be chalk full of all day fishing. There a number of rules including lines allowed in the water at 8:00am and must be out by 4:oopm, followed by weigh-ins at the dock. Additional guidelines include no live bait, no chumming and no wire-line rigs.

Breakfast will be available for the angler’s every morning at Bonefish Folley’s beginning at 6:30am. Dinner and cocktails will be served beachside.

AWARDS:

One of the awards given is the Jack Davis Award, which goes to the team that releases the most billfish throughout the tournament. Some of the billfish include; white marlin, blue marlin and sailfish. The grand trophy goes to the team who catches the heaviest combination of one tuna, one dolphin and one wahoo.

Jupiter Pointe Paddle Boarding- MUST DO!

Jupiter Paddle Boarding Try the newest trend Jupiter has to offer, SUP! SUP stands for stand up paddle boarding and it has been long adored by Floridians. In the past few years, paddle boarding has gained great interest from Jupiter locals and tourists. If you enjoy the water, sun and adventure you have to try standup paddle boarding at Jupiter Pointe Paddling at the Jupiter Pointe Club and Marina.

The paddling packages and tours that are offered at Jupiter Pointe Paddling are amazing! You can do anything from guided tours to yoga classes on the stand up boards.

SPECIAL TOURS:

Island Tours– held every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 11 am. The island tours are 90 minutes and guided.

Full Moon Tours– 90-minute, guided tours cruising the water on clear nights underneath the stars. A drum circle, bon fire and a cash bar follow the moon tours.

Doggie Paddle– open to dogs who enjoy the water! They take place every Saturday at 4 pm.

SUP Classes– 1 hour classes that incorporate yoga, cardio and core on the standup boards. Caution, this class is a challenge!

SUP & SIP– Adults only! They are fun focused, as they offer a 2-hour paddleboard or kayak rental as well as 2 complementary drinks at Wylder’s.

Blowing Rocks Eco Tour– every first Wednesday of the month from 9:30am- 11:30am. It is a 2-hour paddling tour of the nature preserve at blowing rocks, where you will search for turtles, porpoises, manatees and tropical fish.

Paddle Parties– Paddle Parties are perfect for kids’ birthday parties. Up to 10 kids can paddle, swim and eat at Wylder’s. The tours are guided and truly offer a unique way to celebrate!

Incredible, $30 Million Center for Autism is Coming to Jupiter!

Golf star, Ernie Els (Bears Club) and his philanthropy announced Tuesday, March 5 their plans to build a groundbreaking center for autism right here in Jupiter, Florida. What the foundation is calling “an epicenter for autism research, transition and treatment,” is going to deliver a tremendous amount to our society.

The Els Foundation have submitted the plans for the $30 million charter school in the Limestone Creek area of Jupiter. The center will focus on giving children, from 3 to 21 years old, the best quality of life when living with autism.

When the plans for the school were submitted to Palm Beach County, they included some great details. The school will rest on a 27-acre parcel located just north of Indiantown Road, east of I-95 and will feature a 100,000 square foot school and resource center equipped to care for 300 students with autism. Mary Kay Wilson, the tournament director for the Ernie Els Foundation stated, “Transition programs will be available to help students move forward to adulthood.” What makes this center unique is its combination of  education, medical treatment with sports and activities programs. Having this variety of activities and treatments in one center is what it takes to deliver a life changing experience to children with autism and their families.

Els and his wife, Liezl, have been incredibly devoted to fundraising for autism research. Their son, Ben, was diagnosed with autism in 2008 and since then, they have dedicated their personal resources and energy to the cause. The new charter school available to all students in Palm Beach County. It will provide an interactive setting for those with autism from the first grade all the way through high school. A spokesperson from Autism Speaks commented on the subject of elementary through high school that it “will allow students to learn easier and be more comfortable.”

Local families and the town of Jupiter are very excited about the new center and what it will add to our community. Palm Beach County representatives are expecting the program to gain national and global acknowledgment. So far, the Els Foundation has raised $15 million ($6 million personally donated by the Els family). The charity is also hosting dozens of fundraising events to meet their $30 million goal this year.  Els stated he expects to see “another $3 million raised this year from the golf events.”

Many of these golf benefits will be held in South Florida. The first event is the Golf Challenge series, which will be held at the Floridian in Palm City and begins April 2nd.  The second event is to be held on April 29th in Doral and the grand finale will take place at Trump National (formerly known as Ritz Carlton). in Jupiter on September 30th. These are just a few of the local events the foundation is hosting here in Florida many of the others will be held across the nation.
