Jupiter’s Most Loved Park Becomes Nationally Recognized!

DuBois Park, Jupiter FLJupiter’s famous DuBois Park has been awarded with a National Award that recognizes “excellence in recreation and park facilities for the very best in design.” DuBois Park is a historic icon of Jupiter and has been a popular place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy some fun in the sun! The park is lined with gorgeous palm trees, tropical sea grapes and other lush vegetation. The crystal blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean flow through the park bringing through varieties of small tropical fish and wildlife perfect for those who like to snorkel and explore. Because the rock jetty protects DuBois, the currents aren’t too strong and there are never big waves making the environment ideal for small children to play safely.

DuBois Park has become known for all of its beauty and fun, water activities but it also has a rich history very important to the town of Jupiter. Artifacts that have been preserved signify that the site was occupied from at least 1,000 BC. Harry DuBois, built his home at this location in 1897, giving the park its interesting history of pioneers. Harry DuBois built his home on the Jupiter Inlet Indian Midden and now both the Indian Midden and the DuBois Park on the National Register of Historic Places. DuBois Park has a rich, documented history.

DuBois Park spans 18 acres and connects via a footbridge to a Jupiter Beach Park, a 46-acre oceanfront park. Within these parks there are 17 day-use boat slips, a protected snorkeling lagoon, a wading lagoon, fishing jetty and a boat ramp for non-motorized vessels. With its abundant stretch of beach, DuBois and Jupiter Beach Parks offer plenty of picnic tables and soft, sandy dunes to stretch out on and enjoy a lunch or picnic. On the beach side of the parks, there are often great waves for surfing or strong breezes for kite boarding.

There are always fun events going on at DuBois Park for people of all ages. If you would like to throw a private party, you may reserve a pavilion for your group. For more information about what the park has to offer, please contact (561) 966-6600.

Inaugural Fishing Fundraiser Charters New Course

Lighthouse Ladies Aug. 12The waters off Jupiter welcomed the first Lighthouse Ladies fishing tournament this summer to benefit the nonprofit Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches.

Because of the enthusiasm of all of the volunteers, participants and sponsors, 100 percent of the net proceeds were donated to the organization that helps those with visual impairments maintain their independence and gain self-confidence.

Tournament events took place at various locations both onshore and offshore, including the JIB Club, Shipwreck Bar & Grille and Sweet’s in Tequesta. Prizes were awarded for the biggest catch, and raffles, an auction, music, food and drinks helped make the event a success.

Tournament Executive Director Johnny Ringo said more of the same is planned for the second Lighthouse Ladies tournament in 2014.
